BC/BS has denied my insurance
BC/BS has denied my insurance
I am so upset, my surgery is scheduled for July 27th and today the insurance company has denied my approval. They said because I had previous Gastric Surgery. I have written a letter that I will send overnight tomorrow morning, but I don't know how long they will take to decide. It took them 14 days to decide to deny me. The surgery I had was back in 1982 and it did not work very well then. With the tests I have had resently they said that the staple line is completly broken down and that I have a normal sized stomach. I just don't understand! Has anyone else had this happen to them? What did you do? Please help me!
Chris
Hi Chris,
First of all, your doctor should never have given you a date until you were approved by insurance.
You didn't say if this is considered a new RNY or if it's considered a revision. I wrote an appeal for a woman who needed a revision because her stoma was too large, and the food went right through her pouch. Her doctor wrote a very extensive letter stating why the first surgery didn't hold up, why she needed a revision, and exactly what type of procedure he planned on doing and why.
Definitely enlist the help of your surgeon. Have him call BCBS for a "doc to doc" call where he can discuss this with a staff physician.
Fight the good fight!

I don't understand why they set up surgery dates when they know the person has not been approved yet through the insurance company yet. I have heard of this many times.
Only thing I can think of is that the surgeon feels the person will be approved. I thought for sure I was going to be approved the first time around but now I'm appealing it with Gary.
