Getting Post-Op Insurance

My family is relocating and are trying to get an individual family plan to cover us. We were told today that they would not offer us insurance due to my gastric by-pass surgery 2 years ago. Is this true? or legal? Has anyone had success getting insurance post-op? Thanks for your help

I have heard of Insurance companies not wanting to cover you due to WLS because they are scared of having to foot the bills for later on if you have complications. Same thing goes with life insurance. They can turn you down due to having WLS but then they can turn you down for being obese also. Donna
