Exclusion: Any way to pursue this? Attorney?

Hi all. I am so down right now. I found out my insurance policy has what appears to be an iron clad exclusion. We have United Healthcare. The exculsion states: "Health services and associated expenses for the surgical treatment and non-surgical, medical treatment of obesity (including morbid obesity) are excluded." Has anyone on here had luck in getting surgery approved with UHC when there is an exclusion? Would an attorney do any good at all or am I just screwed and wasting my time and energy?

Are you sure about the exclusion? I called my insurance co. United Healthcare EPO and asked them if they cover WLS..and the gentlemen told me no not even if it's medically necessary. It was considered exclusion. Then I decided to call back about a month later and aska gain and the lady named Felicia took her time and she put me on hold for about 7 minutes then she came back and told me that my insurance covers it as long as it is medically necessary. So UHC does cover it....do you get it through your employer? Hope this helps! God Bless! Sara Brooke

Did you read that exclusion on your policy, or a sample one? That is UHC's iron clad WLS exclusion. That exclusion specifically states that your policy will not cover WLS, period. No matter how many appeals you or a lawyer will do, it is just not a benefit of that policy. Sorry.
