I was denied by my ins. co. for an exlcusion in my policy. It states for obese and morbidly obese. Its amazing though how they bury them into a section in coc book so you cant find it. So im going to appeal it. What Im curious about is if hiring an attorney is worth it. Ive put out so much money so far in copays and deductables and the administrative fee to my surgeon that im debating on another $800 for a non guaranteed approval. I want this surgery and I want to fight and appeal it. But if its an exclusion and is spelled out what are my chances of really winning this battle? Im so frustrated and distraught about my denial. Ive never looked forward to something so much and was never so sure of wanting something as badly as I want this. Can anybody give me any answers? Thanks for your help. Kristi

You have UHC, thier exclusion is iron clad. Are you in the position to be able to find insurance elsewhere?

UHC is not iron clad, you need to know the details. Unless it is self funded through her employer and even then there have been overturned denials.

Do you know where I can find any information on UHC self-funded denials that have been overturned?
