Does anyone know where I can find some copies of what your PCP might send off to your insurance company on your behave? Thanks Donna

Insurance companies are big on documentation. Your doctor can't say something in a letter that appears to be out of nowhere. There should be something in your chart to support the doctor's statements. The letter should address the following topics: medical history including co-morbidities family medical history effect of your obesity and co-morbidities on activities of daily living diet and exercise attempts your compliance with doctors recommendations strong recommendation for surgery in order to treat your present symptoms and prevent further conditions from developing Fight the good fight! Roberta BTW - Do NOT copy "sample letters" and then give them to your PCP to sign. The insurance companies see the same letters over and over again and they don't even read them if they ring a bell...

I'm taking this letter from Gary's web site http://www.obesitylawyers.com/ I have everything in order. I'm going to fill it out and then ask her to sign it or else make up her own on my behave.

I am 18 years old & almost 300lbs & my insurance denied me the surgery to gain my life from this cruelness. My mother had this surgery in November of 2002, and after seeing her results, it made me want this surgery so bad. January 2004 I started working towards it because I turned 18 in May, 2004. Well, when my birthday was over, we sent it in to our insurance company (blue cross blue shield) and they denied me. I was heartbroken & still am. I'm trying my hardest to find a way to have the surgery & have insurance pay for it. I've waited 6 months already to get an approval because i really couldn't start till i was 18, but i got all the information done & ready back in january. Now they tell me they wont cover it for ANY reason whatsoever. This is unfair to me & others like me. I still have my entire life ahead of me, and with the disease & problems I have, I can't lose weight normally. I am in bad need of this surgery & I feel like my life is getting more worse as the days proceed. They shouldn't be allowed to do this with as much money as we give them each month. I don't know what else to do, I feel like I'm never gonna be happy because of my obesity. It's not fair & it's never going to be fair until I get my chance of being happy & not having as many medical problems. Is ANY insurance companies in Ky still covering this surgery?

Bobbie, I'm sorry they did you this way. It's not fare but a lot of insurance companies are dropping WLS. I'm battling my own insurance company right now. Try contacting Gary at his web site http://www.obesitylawyers.com/ as he'll give you sound advice if you have a leg to stand or not. Donna

Thank you Donna. I'm trying to talk my parents into getting an appeal put together from my gynocologist from where i have that PCOS disease (polysistic ovarian syndrome) and then from doctor Bolar. Hopefully, with enough arguments, they'll accept. If they don't, I just don't know what to do.

I wish you all the luck in getting approved because your so young and deserve to have a long and healthy life. We all deserve a happy and long life but I understand your pain as I'm 313lbs and it's a living hell. Donna
