Horizon BCBS

I am getting so frustrated with horizon bcbs. They received my paperwork on April 20 and I still haven't heard anything. On Monday my file was put on supervisor priorty. I was supposed to have an answer within 48 hours. Well here we are more than 48 hours later and still no answer. Today I was told that they will contact the med review department to find out when my file will be looked at and call me back tonight or tomorrow. Well I won't hold my breath! I am just so disappointed because I have always heard such great things about horizon approving surgery. I was hoping to have surgery the week of June 21st. If I don't get approved soon I'm afraid I will lose my date! I hate being in limbo. Thanks for listening. Any advice would be appreciated. Heather

Hi Heather and hugs. All I can say is keep calling and hounding them to death. Call every single day and say I won't stop until I get an answer. Donna

Donna, I hate it that your surgeon gave you a date before you were approved by your insurance company. This should never be done, unless you are self paying. It's not fair to get your hopes up. That being said, my insurance company (UHC) took 10 weeks to approve me. It depends on their backlog. Many companies are not approving on the initial submission, and making you appeal. I agree that you should call every day until you get an answer. The squeaky wheel gets greased! Believe me, I worked in insurance for many years, and this is really true. Hi Roberta, Thanks for your reply. I found out I was approved last Thursday. HURRAY!!! Just to clarify my original post, my surgeon did not give me a date before I was approved. I am a teacher and met with him last August. I asked to have my surgery the week of June 21st because that would be good for me. I was tentatively scheduled for that date pending approval. Thank goodness everything worked out. Apparently I did not need a predetermination, just a precertification. When the insurance woman at my surgeon office called on Thursday she was given my precertification number over the phone. Best wishes to you. Heather
