Scared...havent heard anything
Hey everyone, I was just wondering if anyone could tell me how long they waited to hear fromt heir insurance companies....I am totally freaked out because my surgery is scheduled for May 24th and I have yet to hear from my insurance company. Oxford Freedom Plan is my insurance company but I think starting monday I am calling them every day til I get approval...I was told by my doctors office that not hearing fromt hem is a good thing usually...but im really getting crazy with waiting and afraid they may deny it...so far I have done nothing with the approval except called n checked to see if I was covered for this surgery. They told me if it was a medical neccessity I would be covered..

Call your insurance company and be nice but HOUND them to death.
You might surprise yourself at how you can get the ball rolling if you call, explain and ask what's going on.
Everyones insurance company is different. Some are faster then others and then some drag their feet.
If I had not called my insurance company my paper work would probably still be sitting in their system so I got the ball rolling much faster but sadly I'm now having to appeal.

I've said it before, and I'll say it again. Surgeons who schedule surgery without having an approval first, are setting you up for a major disappointment. Most people aren't approved on the initial submission anyway, and have to appeal.
Medical necessity means different things to different insurers. Most have diet requirements now, and that can be a whole different ball of wax.
Call everyday until you have your answer, and don't listen to anything your surgeon's office staff tells you. They don't know what they are talking about.
Fight the good fight!
