VENTING!!!!

I have been struggling with my insurance company (Principal Financial). They said I needed 6 months supervised weight loss attempts. Unfortunately, the six months are up just when my employers change policys. We will still be with Principal, but the policy will be different. I was told last night the new policy will exclude WLS. Why? "Because there are so many complications and it does not work in the long run. The company really just has your best interests at heart." BULL!! And I am probably screwed because of the upcoming change. As far as the old policy was concerned, I began supervised weight loss on 12/31/03. And the new policy takes affect 7/1/03. I AM SO FRUSTRATED!! I feel like giving up. GRRRRRRRR!

You need to appeal right now! You should send copies from your medical chart showing that you are attempting to comply with their requirements, however, you insist that you are approved immediately, since the policy will not cover surgery after 7/1/04. Show medical necessity, and don't take no for an answer. Fight the good fight! Roberta
