I called BCBS of Ill yesturday morning and they explained to me why I must diet another 6 months. The 6 month diet changed to 12 months on 1/1/04 but because we did not submit the paper work for the WLS until April of 2004 I fall under the new 12 month dieting policy. I explained to her that I had started the process before the first of the year and she told me, your doctor should have submitted everything before the first of the year. DUH!! I was not done with the whole process and I had to change surgeons. Guess all I can do is go back to my PCP and keep doing the diet thing until October. Maybe I'll get my WLS as a christmas gift. The lady told me they are making it harder and harder for people to get WLS which just angers me Donna

My insurance is so bad that a whole Yahoo! group has been formed to fuss about it! My insurance is self-funded so if the insurance company gives me too much flak, I'll call and ask someone at the HR dept. if they'd rather pay a small fee for WLS or large fee for heart surgery along with all of the meds I'll have to take for the rest of my life. Maybe even two surgeries, valves can last 3 years or 20 years, depends. I've seen where others are in the middle of qualifying for WLS and the rules change but the insurance co. will allow the person to stay with the old rules since they started their claim before the changes. I'd appeal this. Gary is a good lawyer to talk to about this. Good luck!
