Insurance won't cover my Lap-Band procedure

I was on the surgeon's schedule for April 26th, but everything has been cancelled because my insurance company - Highmark Blue Shield of PA - calls the Lap-Band procedure "experimental". Blue Shield would cover the far more expensive and invasive gastric bypass surgery, but the research I've done has convinced me that the Lap-Band is the only choice for me. I plan to do battle with Blue Shield, and would appreciate any and all information I can get about the effectiveness of the Lap-Band.
