Medicar vs. Insurance

If you have insurance, but they exclude bariatric surgery (even if medically necessary), can you get medicare to pay? It just doesn;t seen right that people with insurance cannot get the surgery, but people without insurance can get the surgery.

Well, I guess, but there is a catch. To get Medicare, you either have to be over a certain age or on Medicaid for over two years with a disability. And while Medicaid will pay for the RNY, and theoretically for the DS, I have both and was driven insane from trying to find a surgeon who would accept them. Medicare alone pays pitifully for this surgery, Medicaid would pay even less. -Ari
