I am so frustrated. I was approved by Blue Shield, yet denied by Blue Cross. The letter only said that I did not meet qualifications, however, they told my doctor I hadn't been under a doctor for weight loss for 6 months. I had joined healthcenter fitness program back in September 2003 which is sponsered by the local hospital. In fact, run by the hospital. There they took my weight, did my BMI, bloodwork, etc. My doctor will try to resubmit information. My Blue Cross approval is good for one year. Of concern is the dislocation I have on my lower back which my neurogist provided 2 letters stating the support and need for rapid weight loss due to the strain on my back which is causing loss of feeling in my legs and feet. I'm not sure what to do. The pain is getting worse each day. I have been doing aqua aerobics Monday through Friday mornings for the past 2 weeks to try to lose weight, however, i also have 3 herniated disks in my neck. The more i work out, the more pain I am in. It seems like a lose - lose situation. I need help quickly before I lose all feeling and ability to use my left leg. HELP!

I would get strong letters from ALL of your treating physicians stating that is medically necessary for you to have the surgery NOW for all of the reasons you mentioned. They should state how postponement is jeopardizing your health. You need to be extremely careful not to injure yourself further by exercising. Will you have to have spinal surgery at some point? Keep fighting! This is your life! Roberta
