Why All the denials

The common thread through everyone's questions here and to me is why? So, I am going to tell you why insurance companies are doing this. I have been working in the insurance field for more then 15years. It was always against the insurance companies. That's why these appeals are so natural to me. In the 70's Ford made a car called the Pinto. When the Pinto was struck from the rear it tended to explode. When Ford realized this and the lawsuits began Ford did a study, and this is a fact, with their number crunchers, that the percentage of injury or fatality and the money that would have to be paid was very low in comparison to what it would cost to recall and repair all of the Pintos. So what did ford do? They left them on the road and dealt with the lawsuits. In this instance here, you are going to start to see studies from "insurance companies" and their doctors that this surgery is terrible, dangerous and in the long run doesnt work. Why? Because they have crunched the numbers. And this I know from my dealings with legal counsel. It is CHEAPER for them to deny you, hope you'll walk away, stall you or whatever they can do, and pay for medications and treatment over long term, betting that you will leave their company or just plain pass away, whereby their money is spent over many years, then it is for them to open the floodgates and spend money on surgeries right now. That's the bottom line. They know they'll lose on appeal, but most people don't appeal, they walk away. They also know by stalling you, they can hope for changes in the law, or you will miss a deadline to file a required appeal. That's why, after your surgery, we all need to stay around and help others like you great people here. Be well. Gary Viscio WWW.OBESITYLAWYERS.COM

Thanx Gary, I am new to this so should my bariatric doctor be fighting for me or should I do this on my on. I have an appt for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. The office called me today and said...I need to cancel your appt because your insurance will not pay. I thought the Doctor's office would fight for you. I told them how do you know I was not planning to self-pay? She then changed her tone. Tell me what to do. Please. Brenda Bierd in Texas

Thank YOU Very Much Gary,,,,,I appreciate your honesty and candor so very much. ... It is exactly what I have been thinking. I am in the process of writing my appeal letter...........and I am trying to be very careful in how I do it. I do not want to be emotional, or threatening to them, but I want them to know that I am NOT going to go away. I have instructed my family to hold the insurance company liable for my death or further complications from my diabetes if I am not approved for surgery. Thank you, Beckey
