HOw much weight can one lose?
My insurance has stated that i need to do the diet thing for 6 months. How much weight should you lose? Is there a certain amount of weight loss that would prevent them from paying for the surgery?? I am confused because whatever weight is lost is only temporary!! It comes right back...even more than you lost. It just wastes time
Hi Debra! I can tell you what I lost on my 6mo diet that I had to have for Aetna.. I lost 22lbs and my 6mo diet was up end of Jan. and I can proudly say I got my approval on Feb 19th...I asked around during my time of 6mo about that question and I got answers of I dont think that the insurance is looking for a certain amount of losing..but if your able to stay with a regimen..and that is the reason why your doing a diet with your DR supervising..my pcp made sure she weighed me every month and talked about what I was eating...what cal/low card diet(i'm diabetic) and at the end she said that even after 6mo of good food behavior and exercise I still think this is medically necess. for me to have this surgery done. Hope that helps a bit.
My insurance company did not care about how many pounds I lost during my 6 month supervised weight loss program. They needed to know that I stuck with a program for at least 6 months. My surgeon requires each patient to lost 10% of their total weight loss before he will schedule you for surgery. I know the more weight you can lose before surgery the better off you will be. It is sort of a catch 22, but there are medical reasons for it.
Good Luck,
Terry
