Ok, here is my ordeal. I know for a fact that i would be a candidate for this gastric bypass but i haven't been seeing a Dr to get a recommendation for it. My gynecologist has told me that i needed to do something quick and has prescribed glucophage and spironolactone (something like that)..not only that but i also have other problems that others have such as shortness of breath, pain in joints and back, because of the weight gain, i have PCO syndrome. I mean, alot has happened to be because of the weight gain. I mean, i have always been a pretty healthy girl (lowest was size 12 which i was content at). My BMI is 44. I guess i just need guidance on what i need to do to start the process of getting the surgery. I have taken medications for weight loss, prescribed and over the counter and nothing ever worked but it appears to get recommendation, i would have to see a Dr which i have not been consistent on.What do i need to do to get started?

OK. It sounds like your PCOS is your biggest co-morbid condition. A lot of women with this syndrome end up getting WLS. Have you seen a doctor for the joint pain or your shortness of breath? Who is your insurance carrier? Some companies require a physician supervised diet before they will approve surgery. My insurance carrier did not require letters of medical necessity from anyone other than the surgeon, but I sent a letter from my pulmonologist (I have sleep apnea.) I would call your insurance carrier, and have them send you the guidelines for prior approval. Don't accept what they tell you on the phone, GET IT IN WRITING! I live in Marietta too, so if you want to email me, I would be happy to call you.

thank you so much for writing back. I know i have been trying to get with Dr. Champion's office ( have you ever heard about them?). Well, i submitted my paperwork to them and they called my insurance provider and they told them that i have total exclusion for this surgery. Talk about upsetting!! . I have all the problems to get this type of approval but appears that i can't. I have insurance with BCBS national. The office staff told me it was my provider who put this exclusion on it so i am going to try and talk to them to see if they can permit it. I would like to talk to you though, its always good to know someone local for support. Email me!

Roberta, who is a good PCP? I need to find one fast. I haven't really been to one specific one, if anything, my gyn. is the one who tells me what i need to be doing...
