Does anyone know of any organizations that help people with unpaid medical bills? Our insurance denied payment of the surgeon and the hospital, post-op, after having issued a precert letter to the surgeon. They have denied our appeal. We are now trying to see if there are any charities that help with this type of situation.

Call the state insurance commission and let them know what happened. Then call your employer's human resource director and let them know also. Might not be a bad thing to get a lawyer as a last resort. One person said that their insurance wouldn't cover wls so she put into the local paper how she hadn't gottena raise in 2 years and that the insurance wouldn't cover her surgery. She was a county employee. Well, they got on the ball and helped her get approved. Good luck!

Contact the Department of Insurance in your state. Provide them the medical bills and your approval letter. Your insurance company has 10 days to deny or make payment from the time they are contacted. Insurance companies are terrified of the DoI and generally make payment on everything that comes through. I know this for a fact. *wink*
