Insurance Woes

Hi, I originally posted this to the Main board as I didn't know about the Insurance Forum. I'm glad I found my way here and hope someone has some advice, opinions, etc. I'm a candidate for the bypass surgery but have run into some problems and am hoping I can get some advice. The main issue is - I am on Cigna's Cobra plan which runs out in Sept. and will probably cost $700 a month for coverage which I cannot afford (I am single). So I have been looking into other insurance companies and have basically been told that if I have the surgery before switching, I will more than likely been denied new coverage. Sure I could switch to another company now but due to my weight my premiums will be too expensive for me. I was told tho that I could switch now and once the weight is off, the premiums would come down. I don't actually believe that. Oh, and that company will not cover the surgery either. I really don't want to drop Cigna now as my monthy premium is very low. By the way, Cigna has denied me twice so I will be a selfpay. I have come to terms with that. Does anyone know of an insurance company that will not deny new coverage to those of us that have had the surgery? Thank you!!

Try United Healthcare. They have policies that do cover the surgery and, from all I've heard, are really good at approvals. Good luck!
