Insurance denial update!

Hi all! Thank you all for your kind words.Ive cried all day because I feel that I'm being treated unfairly! I have Aetna and I WILL NOT renew my Aetna insurance when my job has open enrollment this November 2004! I WAS DENIED BECAUSE THEY SAID MY 6 MONTH DR SUPERVISED PLAN WAS NOT SUFFICIENT????!!! I read the stipulations when I started my journey July 2003 and was well aware of the 6 month dr supervised diet requirement.I was given a 1200 calorie diet by my primary physician and I have been doing monthly weigh- ins with him(sometimes 2x per month to monitor my blood pressure). I have exceeded 6 months and now I find that some new changes were made to their sugery policy and I must now go through another 6 months with some new stipulations added recently(like weeks). There must be some way for me to present my case for approval..Someone please help me out! I feel another 6 months will be detrimental to my health...THANKS!

Hi Candi. I have Aetna PPO and I am so afraid of getting denied my surgery. I want to have the lap band done. I have called them on several occasions and have asked if they consider the lap band an experimental procedure. All they tell me is to have my doctor send in the necessary paper work and if it is medically necessary, the medical examinar will determine if I am approved. Did you have any comorbidities (yes I know I spelled this wrong) health related issues. Was that in your letter. I think the more you list the better it might be. Also, who determined that you had to have a 6 months supervised diet. No one told me that. I have been on several supervised weight loss plans in the past but not reciently. I have failed at all and I'm tired of trying. I also have a thyroid disease that makes it extra hard for me to get the weight off, therefore, WLS is my only hope.
