New here. Ins. help please....
Hello. I've been a a member for a few months and have lurked around a bit.
I recently applied to Blue Cross of CA. for health coverage but was denied because of my weight. Apperantly if you weigh over 195lb(which is their limit) you are not elligible for coverage. They basically told me to lose the weight and then apply.
My question is; Is there any insurance company who will accept me? Do all insurace companies have this weight limit? I'm lost. I would like to get insurance but I'm afraid everytime I apply to any insurance company that I will be denied. Any help would be greatly appreaciated.
I was sickened by the fact that now that I can afford health coverage...I cannot get it. I am in Kansas and found the same thing. I was mistakened by thinking that health coverage was based on your health not your weight. How do they get past discrimination laws? I wanted healt coverage for preventative reasons...I am on the same boat...I am sorry to hear that someone else is having to go through the same thing.

Hi Girls ~ I am thinking you guys need to contact your state's insurance dept. I know that in Idaho, and I thought this was a federal thing, that you can't be totally denied. You may have to take a higher risk type insurance that will cost more but they have to offer you something. I know that Blue Cross of Idaho has a seperate policy for the "unhealthy" consumers. Hopefully this is a federal law and you can't be discriminated against. It stinks to have to pay higher premiums with fewer benefits. I guess we deserve that for being fat..... NO, that is DISCRIMINATION !!! Obestity is a medical condition !!! There are tons of studies that show this. Congress needs to stop listening to insurance lobbyists and start listening to the medical professionals !!! Contact your congressmen and tell them how you feel. The only way we are going to win is if congress forces insurance companies to start treating the obese like people with any other disease. Good Luck !!!
Hi, I saw another post above this stating United American will cover the surgery. Try their link
http://www.unitedamerican.com/
Also, group insurance doesn't usually have health requirements. Maybe you or your spouse could get a job with benefits to cover you,
