Appeal to UHC--Long post.....

Hi all- I am in the process of appealing an exclusion with UHC. Here is some background.....We were covered for insurance with UHC PPO in TX and when getting our booklet, found that my hubbys work has under 50 employees and the policy excludes any form of weight--morbid included.I called his HR and the woman was really nice and talked to the rep of UHC. They gave me a address and said I should send a letter of necessity from my PCP and it would be reviewed and maybe decided on a case by case basis. So.....I am 372lbs and have HB pressure and some other stuff...am I screwed??? I have waited to send the letter and my personal appeal b/c i dont want to be told no.....any advice???

hey there, I am also in texas and have uhc ppo and they exluded weight issues on my plan too. Do you have the address to send the appeal to? I talked to my doc and he said since the docs appointment is obesity related that I would have to pay for it and that it is not covered by my insurance policy. So do u have to write a letter to the insurance and make an appeal yourself? Or have your doc do it? Please help!!! Thanks Misty

I have an address for appeals for United Health Care they are jerks when it comes to covering the surgery. It is excluded from my policy too. Do you guys know that your company can ok the surgery and over ride UHC? That is what I was told. I was also told do not give up and fight them to the bitter end and some have won. I WAS JUST INFORMED THAT UHC CHOICE HMO WONT COVER MY SURGURY DUE TO AN EXCLUSION WITH THE CITY OF SANFORD, IN SANFORD FLORIDA. i'M UNDER MY HUSBAND'S INSURANCE AND THEY TOOK APPROX 30 DAYS TO TELL ME THE BAD NEWS. i'M SO ANGRY. PLEASE HELP ME. I'M 411 POUNDS AND HURTING
