12/31/2003 Well today, I heard from my surgeon's office that as of January 1, 2004, my employer is no longer covering the Gastric Bypass Surgeries.. I am highly upset.. I started with this in March 2003, had my appt. with the surgeon in July, went through all of my testing, (Ultrasound, Psych eval, and finally Sleep Study) which I do have sleep apnea, (I stopped breathing about 50+ times ) during the night at the hospital.. to have all of this done to find out it was for nothing.. I am just beside myself right now...Its just now fair..

Donna -- it is unfair but should not stop you. Find the money and pay for it. Hopefully your doctor and hospital will work with you. If you own you home... take an equity line. If you pay for the surgery, you will be able to write the costs off as medical expenses on your taxes and get back 25-30%. With a home equity line, you can write off the interest on the loan as well. Work an extra job. Do whatever you need to do (without breaking the law) and come up with money -- your health is the most important thing!
