Regence Blue Cross Blue Shield of Oregon

I have had the unpleasant task of dealing with Regence Blue Cross Blue Shield of Oregon. While most of theitr support staff were extreamly helpful they have taken the position that this surgery is an Exclusion and therefore whould nto be covered. I went through the appeal process twice and failed both time, they even went as far to say that it was medically necessary however my employer excluded this coverage. One thing that Regence fails to tell its members is that as of July 2002 yopu have the right to request an external review from an independant party that will be chosen by the State of Oregon. Use it, and create as much work as you possibly can for these people. They will write to you and will take the stand that it doesnt qualify for review, but thats not for them to decide. Its for the reviewer. I would also recommend that you write to the ORegon Insurance Commission and voice you concern about the ongoing discrimination that is occuring by Regence Blue Cross. If they truly cared for their patients/members helath and long term outcome they would cover this surgery if it was medically necessary. It saddens me to think that between my employer and I we pay $1005.00 per employee for this lousy coverage. It was quiet apparent where all of our hard earned money is going, as I went to their 2 High Rise Buildings in Portland with marble floors and it all made since. Please do not loose faith and be persitant. Hopefully one day they will care enough about their members and not their pocket books to endorse this life saving surgery.
