medically supervised diets
I received a denial for wls, two weeks ago, because the insurance co. said I needed six monthes of medically supervised dieting. My pcp wrote an appeal letter saying that he has me on a diet, but because of my arthritis and pain,in my knees and hips, I'm unable to exercise enough to help with weight loss. He stated that he did not feel I would be successful at weight loss, without the surgery. I have a BMI of 48, hypertension, hyperlipidemia, poss sleep apnea. Has anyone heard of an insurance company approving surgery, after a denial , in a situation such as mine? I'm so afraid that they'll deny me again. I guess if they do, I'll have no choice, but to try to do the six month thing. It's so frustrating, I've been trying to lose weight for 30 years. I've been to weigh****chers 2x, TOPS 2x,and overeaters anonymous, besides a million attempts on my own. I went to the Dr before starting the groups, for setting a weight goal, and a medical ok, to start those diets. I was on TOPS the last time, for three years. I did lose 75 lbs, but obviously it didn't stay off. I'm now heavier than I've ever been. I'd like to know what the insurance company thinks that another 6 monthes is going to do, besides add to my health problems. Anyone have any thoughts, advice ect? I'd appreciate hearing from you!
