The Trends

It is officially a trend within the health insurance industry to require a very meticulous documentation of a supervised weight loss program for six months before approving of WLS. My insurance provider is BCBS of Illinois and the requirements for me are to do as aforementioned inaddition to a food diary analysis, compliance to a healthy lifestyle, documented weight loss goals, and nutrition therapy. Aetna and Cigna started this trend but BCBS is by far the most strict. It is highly likely that this will only continue so in if you have any of these providers or if you are thinking of the surgery make sure you fully understand the requirements.
