cigna deined me!!!!
CIGNA is very difficult to deal with...You definately will need the 2-26wk diet plans...I don't know why/who told you that weigh****chers/LA WeightLoss/etc is not good enough because that is what I submitted to them and got approved after the 2nd appeal...Maybe your PCP can help you out if he/she knew you were on those plans-maybe a note from him/her would help? Call CIGNA and get all the info you need to get approved...But, there is no getting around the 2-26wk diet documentation info...Good luck!
I agree with everything Andrea said. As wonderful of site this is, and I love this site, there is a yahoo group called cignassqueakywheels. Obviously its all CIGNA insured ppl that have either won or are still fighting them, but it is a wealth of great info. support etc.. I would suggest maybe checking it out. CIGNA is extremely difficult, CIGNAs right hand doesnt know what the left hand is doing. Trying to get any type of info from them is almost impossible. This is my opinion and experience anyway and Ive been dealing with them for 8 months. Had they givin me straight and correct info the first time around I would have had surgery by now. As it stands, Im hiring an attorney and getting ready to fight my final appeal. What ever you do dont give up and keep fighting. As you see Andrea is proof that you can get approved maybe just not as quick as you want. I wish you the best of luck and hope you get approved soon.
debra, they want to see on paper that you weighed in at least monthly for six months each time. if you provide them with a statement from la weight loss and have your dr document your weight for 6 consecutive months they will accept it, "one" of which must be within the last 12 months. I was also denied by my insurance(which uses cigna for approval) not once but twice. the first time i was denied because i only had 4 weigh-ins in the six month period---so i had to start a six month diet at that point. have your dr help you, mine was able to back my weigh ins up 2 months(because I had been to his office) and i only had to diet for four more months with monthly weigh-ins. When you re-submit to the insurance company write them a heartfelt letter, include family medical history and the medical necessity from your point of view; get them on a personal level; they will listen, eventually.......my surgery is next week!!!
p.s. have your dr state all the diets you tried and failed and any medical conditions that you have that may have affected your weight loss. GOOD LUCK, you will get it, just be determined and get records from anywhere and everywhere no matter how irrelevant they may seem.
