I have Cigna HMO as a primary insurance. They have denied my request. I have United Health Care as a secondary insurance through my husband. My question is, does the secondary mean anything different when it comes to coverage? (I have called and his policy has no written exclusions)

im not an expert on this but i think on the alabama forum I read where this lady was denied by her primary insurance but was able to get approved through her husband's. You may want to search there.

I have two insurances. Cigna HMO and Aetna PPO. At first, Cigna denied me, but after an appeal, they approved me. Aetna also approved me. Since they both eventually approved, I am covered either way, but only the first will have to pay. My point is, if the first denies, you can ask your second insurance and see if they approve. I would also appeal to Cigna and see if they will approve it for you after the appeal because with an HMO, you have less out of pocket expense and a lot of time, Cigna denies the first time just to see if you will appeal. If you're really serious, they figure you will put out the effort to appeal, if not, you'll drop it. Show them you're SERIOUS. I don't know about UHC or how much out of pocket you will have. If I were you, I'd ask both insurances and appeal both of them to the maximum extent. If they say no, just keep giving them more and more and appeal until you get their approval. Just make sure you have fulfilled all their requirements...that's the key. Carolyn
