Hi there; My hubby's insurance is changing to United Healthcare, not sure if it will be HMO, PPO, POS, etc. Any suggestions as to which one is the BEST at getting this surgery approved?? From what I have seen on the insurance board for Colorado, they either cover or there is an exclusion... Im worried that we may pick the wrong one!! Help! Any suggestions?? Thanks in advance ~Judith~

Judith, My husband has Unitedheathcare and I just got my approval last week. We have a ppo but i know someone with unitedhealthcare that has ppo also that got a denial. You should ask specifically if its a covered benefit for whichever policy you choice as it is up to the employer to include or exclude it, that is true for all of the plans. hope this helps ~jennifer~

Judith, I have United Health Care and my employer put an exclusion on the policy for bariatric surgery. I am just starting the appeals process, but it doesn't look like it's going to be very successful. Make sure his policy does not have an exclusion.

With UHC it doesn't matter if its HMO, PPO, or whatever. It completely depends on your individual policy. None are more apt to be without an exclusion. Ask to see the new policy from your husbands employer, it will be VERY clearly listed in the exclusions if it is.
