I don't want to be denied, what can I do?

I haven't went to the informational, because the doctor that I want to do the surgery office assistant said that my insurance preferred care said that I have to have ailments. At least that was my understanding, is this true? I just can't be severely and/or morbidly obese to get the surgery?
