Aetna is my secondary insurance provider. My primary is Cigna. At first Cigna denied me, so I sent them an appeal and then submitted a request to Aetna. (I don't know if the state...Washington or Texas...really matters or not.) Cigna overturned my denial after the first appeal. Aetna denied me at first, but then overturned their denial after speaking with my doctor's office...so I was approved by both insurances...finally. In the past 2 years, I did Weigh****chers and then low-cholesterol. My doctor's notes didn't show him monitoring my weight...and that's where the trouble came in. In my appeal to Cigna, I and my doctor both stated that his "patient note sheets" didn't provide ample room to write down everything we discussed. My appeal letter also stated that I specifically asked the doctor not to put anything about weightloss because I was afraid the insurance company wouldn't pay for the visit since they don't cover weightloss. Also...I was missing the year 1999 from my file, but I had files from previous years that showed that I have, indeed, been morbidly obese for the past 5 years plus some! If you can't get the year you need, maybe if you got records from further back showing that you were overweight, it would do the trick. I'm not sure if Aetna even looked for the "complete 5 year packet" because the reason they denied me at first was because they didn't think I had been dr. supervised for 6 months in the past year or two. I know this post is long, but maybe it will help give you or someone else some hope. Just don't give up!!!
