I'M A REGISTERED NURSE IN THE STATE OF TEXAS AND HAVE ALWAYS HAD A WEIGHT PROBLEM JUST LIKE THE REST OF YOU. i HAVE CONSIDERED WEIGHT LOSS SURGERY BEFORE AND GAVE IT A PASS. NOW I AM THE PROUD MOTHER OF A 2 YR OLD GIRL (SINGLE PARENT) AND WISH TO SEE HER LIFE MUCH BETTER THAN MINE. I WANT TO SAVE HER THE HURT AND HUMILATION OF HAVING A MORBIDLY OBESE MOTHER ( IM 5'3 AND 340LBS) PLUS THE HEALTH BENEFITS TO ME. I PLAN TO HAVE THE SURGERY AND TO MY SURPRISE MY HEALTH INSURANCE DOES NOT COVER THE SURGERY. THEY WON'T EVEN CONSIDER IT...MY OWN PROFESSION HAS A PROBLEM RECOGNIZING THAT THIS SURGERY IS A GRAT AND NECESSARY PROCEDURE.
It seems like the insurance companies are making this harder and harder for those of us who despartely need this surgery. May I ask what type of insurance you have? I have Cigna, and they are almost impossible to deal with. They almost always deny the first and sometimes second submittal to them. I understand your frustration. The more reading I do, I am seeing that more and more insurance companies are requiring at least 6 months of a supervised weight loss program. My advice? Keep fighting!!!
