My Insurance is Changing... Help...!
Hey everyone;
I was wondering if anyone has an knowledge of what happens when in the middle of the process, my insurance company will be changing when my husband changes jobs.
So far, I have gone to the PCP, gotten the referral to the WL surgeon and have seen the WL surgeon. No insurance information has been sent in because I have CIGNA and I know that it will be denied without the current diet history so the lady in the office wanted to hold off on sending it.
My question is this: Will this be considered a pre-existing condition now and not covered under a new plan/insurer? The WONDERFUL news about all this is that I will NOT have to have CIGNA anymore!! BUT, Im just wondering if the new insurer may deny due to pre-existing cond.
Anybody know if this may be the case? I was wondering because I may try to push Cigna through and go with Cobra until it is all completed. OR, if I have not tried to be approved, do you think I should just wait??? decisions, decisions.... lol
Any help would be appreciated, thanks

Judith,
My insurance has just now changed over to BCBS from another company. I called BCBS and asked them about this surgery and if it was covered - YES! I also asked them if there was a pre-existing clause - Yes BUT!!!! They told me that if I would have my OLD insurance company send a LETTER OF CREDIBLE INSURANCE COVERAGE stating that I had insurance in effect up until the NEW policy took over (BCBS) then the PRE-EXISTING CLAUSE would be WAIVED. My advice: Call BOTH insurance companies and ask about this. Do NOT delay. I just requested my LETTER OF CIC last week and have yet to receive it (not worried though). I also made sure my surgeon's office knew about my doing this so it wouldn't slow my process down too much (fingers crossed) Whatever you know make sure they do, too!
I, too, have the option to take COBRA and haven't made the first big $$$ payment but I'm sure I'll probably be able to pay a couple of BACK premiums if I had to (not anticipating that though). DON'T HESITATE TO BE ASSERTIVE with insurance companies...I used to work for one and being NICE but FIRM will always yield results. Don't accept lame answers. Get cold hard facts... If this is your DREAM, then don't let anyone think you're taking a siesta Hope this helps!!!
GOOD LUCK!!! Rhonda C
