My primary insurance is Cigna. I have Cigna through State Merit in Georgia. They just updated their policy and there is a written exclusion for wls. However, my husbands insurance is my secondary insurance and I know they pay for the surgery. That is through United Healthcare. I just spoke with my surgeon and they say they have to file with my primary insurance and get a denial before they will file on my husbands insurance. This could really slow down everything. I am not sure that I understand the procedure for two insurances. Can anyone help?

Hi Marsha I have worked in doctors office for many years doing medical billing, and it is true all claims must be send to primary insurance first, and once they denial it then you can submitt to secondary insurance. What you can do is call your secondary insurance company and find out from them just what you have to do to get this approved. Please what every you do don't give up. If I can help you in anyway let me know. Margie

Thanks. According to the secondary insurance wls is covered if you are 100 lbs overweight. I am that of course. United Healthcare seems to have a pretty good reputation with wls. I have been doing searches looking for information about them and it has all been good. Thanks again.... Marsha
