I go to kaiser in panorama city, california. I also work there. I went to my dr in january of 2003 asking for bariatric surgery referral. she said ok i was 210 pds 5-0inches. She gave me alot of lab work to do. I did it and she called me and said my labs were fine and due to new restrictions with the bariatric referral she would have to deny the referral because i need a health problem. meanwhile since then i joined curves gym for women i loved it i loved 15pds but gained it back, also weigh****chers lost 15pds gained it back and more. In may i got hurt at work with my neck, i couldn't move it i was told not to go to the gym for awhile. i gained 20pds in 3months. i honestly don't know how, i am more active at home, i felt better after having physical therapy for my neck and i ran around with my kids while they were on summer break. My children and husband have noticed i have been snoring really bad, I have been sleeping downstairs on the couch for six months now. anyway i had my husband buy healthnet ppo through his job, and it took alot of paperwork because it wasnt open enrollment so he had to pay back pay for a few months. I chose pacific bariatric because of the wonderful things i heard about it from a few of the patients that i know had it. also i know kaiser contracts with them, and i am determined that kaiser should help me pay for this, because health net is hopefully if i get approved will pay 75%of it. kaiser would pay the whole bill. so i went to the lecture for pacific bariatric in bakersfield ca.i met other kaiser members there from bakersfield. bakersfield is an 1 1/2 hr drive from my home. they told me it was simple for their dr to refer them. I told them I am still trying to get a referral from kaiser.but i thought i would get the ball rolling. speaking to the other lovely ladies there, and i did meet wonderful women there, i told them about my snoring and they said that was probably sleep apnea. i never realized it, and i thought yeah if i have sleep apnea with the bmi of 41 i would qualify for the surgery with kaiser. the next day i saw my dr. in tears and told her i need this surgery, my ankles are swollen,i get short of breath alot,i cant reach to snap my bra on, i am emotionally a wreck, my husband wont come near me, etc. She sent another referral and sent me for lab tests, and there is a 2month waiting list for sleep apnea test. but now my problem is --is that ever since i have been talking about sleep apnea my husband says i don't snore anymore. and i know if i don't have least another condition other than bmi 41 i wont qualify at kaiser. what should i do?

Hey Mona; Well I just want to let you know that I went to my doctor and told her I was just exhausted no matter HOW much sleep I got 5 hours or 12 hours~Well she thought it may be depression and put me on Zoloft. Well it did not help with the tiredness and so I did get a sleep apnea test and found out that I have mild-moderate sleep apnea and am now on the CPAP. I am telling you this because I do not snore at all, so dont worry too much because you never know. Snoring is a prime indicator, but there are other things too! Good luck ~Judith~
