Mary, The first thing you need to do is get a copy of your insurance benefit book and look to see what it says about WLS (weight loss surgery). Once you've done that, you'll kind of know where to go from there. If you are unable to get your hands on a copy of the benefit booklet, call your employer's human resources office and ask them, or just call the customer service department of your insurance company and check with them. They can tell you if something is an exclusion or not. Ask them about the "gastic bypass surgery". Even if there is an exclusion, don't give up just yet. There is lots that can be done. Find a bariatric surgeon, check to see if he/she is an in-network provider and then make an appointment to see them. Since you are not too far from the DFW area, I would recommend my surgeon to you. His name is Dr. Dirk Rodriguez. He is in Dallas, and he is wonderful!! Check out his website at www.texasbariatriccenter.com . Check out the Texas messageboard also, especially since you are in Texas. Lots of people on there can offer TONS of help and advice. Start there and then see where that takes you. Feel free to email me if you have any questions. If I don't have the answer, I will try to point you in the direction of someone who does. We also have a Texas Chat every Wednesday night at 9pm. Come join us for that and see what everyone else is doing. Blessings to you as you begin this journey. Debbie V.
