HELP!! Medical Necessity???

After waiting three months and dozens of phone calls, Cigna (INTRACORP) finally sent me a letter requesting documentation of medical necessity. I have five comorbidities with five medical specialists writing strong letters stating the surgery is a matter of life or death. I think Cigna would deny if I had a letter from the Surgeon General and last rights from the Pope! They wrote I can call them or mail them the documentation. If I call them they will deny that I ever made the call. If I send it (registered) they will deny ever signing for the documentation. In the meantime their 45 day clock is ticking. Any suggestions? The office is in Itasca, Illinois. Too far to drive. Has anyone been denied on this basis and finally approved upon appeal? What did you have to do? If, after submitting all this documentation (again), could they then say I need the 26 week diet plan or other hoop to jump through? Since they only said I need a "clinical reason for requested service" could they invent a new hoop later on? Any and all advice is greatly appreciated. Jim [email protected]

Hey there Jim; I would do what I saw another member post on here which is send all the info FedEx. SOMEONE has to sign for it and you can find out who does that. They seem that they try to put people off thinking we will just go away, but they are making a grave mistake! Good luck! ~Judith

Jim, If you send it certified mail, then someone HAS to sign for it. If they then continue to try to tell you that they didn't receive, just throw that name on the card out to them and don't let up until they find out WHERE it went. Don't give up!! Squeaky wheel gets the oil!! Blessings to you!! Debbie V. in Texas
