Getting Insurance (not for surgery)

I'm scheduled for mt gastric bypass in October but I am self pay. I am looking for insurance because I will no longer be eligible for coverage under my mom's plan because I turn 23 on September 8th. I tried to get individual insurance through Blue Cross but they denied me because I am Obese. I was wondering if anyone knows of any companies that may cover and obese person even if treatments dealing with the weight are not covered. I really need help in htis area. I work but in a non-benefited position at a hospital. (Can you believe that?!!!)

Hi Marla, You didn't say if you had already been through the approval process with your parents insurance and if you've been approved or not. If you've already done that then I would talk to the surgeon and ask if you could get a date before your cut off. If not then I would strongly suggest that you maybe try and switch jobs within the hospital you work so that you can pick up insurance. Not only for the sake of getting wls but who knows what can happen at any given point. We all need some kind of medical coverage, medical care is horribly expensive. Not to preach but just recently I know of a 17 yr old guy that was driving his truck to work at 7am. Nobody knows really what happened but long story short his first hour in the local hospital before he was airlifted out was $10,000.00. 1Hour, can you believe that? I wish you all the luck. Sherri
