Dear OH- First of all, thank God that there is a decent resource that people can go to for help. Your site has been not only a help, but an inspiration to me and others. We talk live on the phone about what a wonderful site you have! Thanks! My question is: My credit is MUCH less than perfect. However, I have some land that I inherited and I'd like to know if I could put it up on a loan for the surgery. The cheapest I've found was for $20,000.00. Can anyone give me advice on this? Does anyone know where I can get it cheaper? Financing? Any questions or comments will be deeply appreciated and welcomed. Thank you, Cindy

Cindy, I am in the same boat that you are in, so.....welcome aboard!!! I also have BCBS (Blue Choice PPO). My employer has an exclusion on WLS. So, I'm beginning the battle. Just this evening, I received an email reply from a lady in California who has had the surgery and knows how to help fight the insurance battle. Her advice to me was to first get BCBS to send you a copy of the written exclusion to make sure that there is not a loophole in it. Write a letter to BCBS with your medical history, co-moribities, etc. She also suggests even possibly contacting BCBS to see if you could pay into the ins. yourself (like COBRA benefits) to get this covered. If you have done all of this, and have still failed, I do know that there is a doctor in Ensenada, Mexico who does the surgery for around $9000. I am not endorsing this option or discouraging it, I am just passing the info. along. If you have any questions about either of these options, please feel free to email me ([email protected]) and I'll do what I can to help. I can also email you the sample letter that the lady from CA sent me to help me compose my letter to the ins. company. Like I said, I'm in the same boat that you are in, and are just beginning the battle. God's richest blessings on you as you strive to get your life back.....at least that is how I look at it. Debbie
