insurance problems

my insurance company is blue cross blue shield of alabama and i haven't went to a doctor yet but i was reading in my policy book that any diet or obesity related surgery or medicine is not covered even if it improves health. I really need this surgery and they think it is a cosmetic surgery?? What kind of idiots are they? I don't care about that, I just want to be healthy!!
