I learned today that Blue Cross is now considering WLS EXPERIMENTAL.... From the information I received this is coming from the head office. What is going on with the insurnace companies. My surgeon was as exasperated as I was by this new development. Not only is it going to hurt me, but his medical practice. Why can't we all play together nicely.......

They would have to change the specific language to your plan. Ask for the "fine print" behind the document they give employees about what is covered. Get the latest version. It may be called a plan document (not a summary plan document) or it may be called a certificate of coverage. Make sure you are looking at the one that goes with the exact plan you have signe d up for. Maybe it is only certain kinds of WLS they consider experimental. Good luck!

I have BCBS of Texas and was told the same thing - WLS is considered experimental. I was denied two times and then my doctor submitted an appeal letter. I just found out yesterday that I have been approved for the surgery. You will probably have to go through the same thing, too. Good Luck!!
