I have already submiited one into CIGNA and also submitted my first appeal to Cigna and they still denied me..I am 28 yrs old and my BMI is 66.5..With the appeal that I submitted, included a letter of referrel from my chiropractor and OB-GYN..Cigna still denied my because I only have one weight loss attmpt documented by a doctor..But of course, they are approving the surgery for people who are barely 100lbs overweight awith no comorbidites. I am stuck. I am a single mother , on a single income and cannot afford to sign up for Weigh****chers or Nutri System,,I don't know what else to do because I can only appeal with CIGNA 2 more times and then after that the answer is final, I am in desperate need of some help.

suzi, are they talking about dr approved weight loss programs or ANY weight loss programs??? If it is any weight loss programs get family, friends etc to write letters to include in your next appeal to them showing that just because it was not "dr prescribed" does not mean you have not been on numerous weight loss attempts....GOOOD LUCK and hope this helps :D

Hello Suzi, I too have been denied by CIGNA 2x. You dont have to join WW or Jenny Craig, or Nutra System, you can just go to your regular Dr. Tell him your on a low fat, low carb diet and that you need to get weighed monthly. Unfortunatly, we have to do this for 6mo. There are MANY, MANY of us CIGNA people in the same insurance hell. Very few are getting approved. I keep going back and fourth on weather I am going to submit my 2nd appeal. Im only allowed 2 appeals, and I only have 1mo out of 6mo of dieting documented. I'm affraid I'll blow my last chance. Anyway, you can also go to your state medical commissioner and file a complaint with him/her. They can over turn your insurance co. denial and force them to pay for it if you meet your insurance guide lines. I hope this helps alittle bit. If you have any questions you can email me any time.
