Company Self Insured, waiting on decision...

My Company is self insured with First Health network as the front end. There is a written exclusion for surgical treatment of obesity. I have spoken with the plan administrator, and they said they will consider it and look at all the different aspects, mainly the cost. Now I wait. They said it could take a year to make the decision. I feel like I don't have a year to wait.

Kevin I am also meeting in person with my plan administrator as well as the CEO of my company to voice my concerns and provide the medical PROOF that I NEED to have this surgery done. Dont give up hope, sometimes that is all we have to hang on to, believe me when I say I am right there with you and feeling a little hopeless as well but if we support each other we can all get thru this!! I am so glad to have found people who are having as much trouble as me with this, not that I am not happy that you arent having it done but that I have people I can relate to and we can support each other. My company is self insured as well, my pre-determintation was denied and my grievance was denied as well and the ONLY reason they would give is that it is an exclusion under my employers plan. Amazing how these people can kill someone and call it an exclusion and get away with it huh?? Who needs mass murderers when insurance companies and employee benefits plans can do it without firing a shot just the stroke of pen to write "denied". I will keep you in my prayers and PLEASE PLEASE dont give up. Where someone closes a door the Lord always opens a window.
