I have been dealing with Weyco since April 2003. They have given me nothing but grief. If you have this insurance, be prepared to have your doctor write a letter stating that the surgery is medically necessary OR have 6 consecutive months worth of MEDICALLY SUPERVISED dieting in your records, or you can forget them approving you. Unless you got in when the surgery was still "new", you won't get any where with Weyco. I am not happy with them at all. They are totally inflexible and not willing to work with you. I have resorted to begging my doctor to write the medically necessary letter for me. If I can't get that, then I'm going with the supervised dieting records. I've been on Phen/Phen, Meridia, Weigh****chers and Jenny Craig, but it wasn't enough evidence for them. I believe that it IS necessary, but a letter from my doctor stating that I was a prime candidate for the surgery and listing all of my co-morbidities did nothing at all. I am a single parent of a 5 year old daughter so I don't have the option of seeing if my husband's insurance will pay for the surgery. I just don't understand it-my BMI is like 51 or 52-I guess that makes me super, ultra, morbid, grossly obese or something-they don't even have a "name" for my BMI. So, I guess if I get closer to death, they might consider it, otherwise they just don't give a damn.
