My insurance company denied me for the surgery( in January ) because we have a weight loss clause in our policy. I just found out that a co-worker's wife was approved my our insurance company and has had the surgery. So how do I get them to approve me? Is it illegal to refuse one person because of the clause but approve another? My BMI is in the high 40's so I know it's noy because of that .....any ideas or suggestions? I don't think I can afford an attorney , but what else can I do? Thank you so much in advance for any help that anyone can offer. Geni H

Hello Geni, I have the same thing with my insuranse. They say they dont cover it when infact they DO. I have to prove that its a medical necessity. Many insurance co. wont tell you that, after they tell you its not covered they hope you will just go away and give up on it. I would call your insurance co and request the COMPLETE written text for your med plan terms, conditions, exclusions, and limitations on gastric bypass surgery.
