Having Individual Health Insurance Denial Problems in Texas?

I was too. My employer refused to purchase a group insurance plan, therefore, we were subjected to the choice of Indiviudal policies. BCBS Individual policies outright denied ANY WLS surgery. After discussing it with legal counsel and determining that it would be a waste of my time to pursue litigation, I opted to hunt for an individual policy that would cover the procedure. Harder than I expected. After months and months of looking, I finally determined that the State of Texas has a "high risk pool" for parties that are finding it difficult to obtain insurance. If you are denied coverage for weight from ANY health care provider, you can qualify for the "high risk pool", and guess what? They specifically cover the procedure. I have just now met with the surgeon who will be doing the procedure, and will be finding out a date for the surgery fairly soon (I hope!). I wanted to pass along this information for anyone who is about to give up due to the cost and lack of insurance. Contact www.texashealthpool.com for more information. They (surprise) are underwritten by BCBS, but it is a Group policy and it covers many many things that normal health insurance policies dont. Kim
