Aetna is giving me the "run around"
I have been calling and emailing Aetna for the last 2 months. I have my medical records since 1986 til the current date. I have records of seeing a clinical dietician in 1997 and 1998 which Aetna told me is not needed, but in their criteria for approval they state they need records of a patients weight 5 years prior. I received an email that told me I would get a response in a few days. The next email I got told me I would get a response within 30 days.
My doctors have written to them and have given them the imformation that they have requested. I have met their criteria. I have documented and copied all my medical imformation and everything to do with my obesity.
I have read on this site from other people that Aetna is good to deal with, but from my opinion they are the complete opposite. I get different people every time I call, and different stories also along with their employees. I have asked to whom I could talk to about this matter or for an extension, but they won't give me one. It is very difficult to talk to someone that cares or knows anything. It like talking to a brick wall!!!!!! I have had test at the hospital that are needed 3-12-03. I began everything in December 2002. I saw Dr. Jaroch in February 2003. It is now May 22nd 2003, and I am still fighting with Aetna.
Sincerely,
Doug Connell
doug,
i know the feeling i went in to see the dr for my first visit in december 02 with a bmi of 39.6 I was denied because I was not a 40 even though I have co-morbitities, I sent a letter from my pcp and was denied again and my weight had went up and was at 40.2 bmi Aetna stated because i had not been under a supervised nutrionist for six months I was denied. I hired an attorney because Aetna states two diffrent policys in regards to the nutritionist 09-02 then a revisied policy that I was denied with the second time dated 01-03 I really do not have any advise other than yes the people at Aetna are nice as some others say but I got tired of fighting them ( I think that is what they want) do not give up I told them I was going to fight them from now on. good luck keep me posted
