Excluded under new job :(

When I was offered my new job I hesitated accepting the offer because I was so close to getting my RNY. All my pre op testing was done it was just a matter of working it in my schedule.  My family made me feel silly for even considering not taking the job.  Well I'm 3 months in and found out bariatric surgery is excluded from or policy. To say I'm bummed is a huge understatement.  Im a single mom so I can't look to a spouse's insurance.  We had medicaid but im pretty sure I don't qualify now with 2 jobs, especially since my job offers free insurance to employees.

Consider this a vent. The thought of paying out of pocket hurts my soul.  So idk how to regroup or what to do. Any tips on what worked for you or guidance will be greatly appreciated.

if it is excluded on your policy the only options you have is find a new job that may have Wls benefits or go the self pay route.

I also had an exclusion and self paid for Wls and recently plastics and it's has ,hands down, been the best money I have ever spent for myself.

I suggest going to the Mexico forum and reading there. Read page after page of posts and you will begin  to see a pattern of the surgeons used inMX and how ppl feel about their services.

The cost for surgery in MX is a huge fraction of the cost formost self paid plans in the states. There are surgeons who offer  self pay. Plans but sometimes they are hard to find.

Hmmm Mexico never crossed my mind. After reading your reply I've been looking into that option. The thought of going out of the U.S. is scary but no way I could afford or get financed for surgery in the states.

Did you get yours there?  How was it?  Who was your surgeon and what do u do for follow up visits? ...guess I should go over to the Mexico forum huh? Hehe

Thanks!

I did get two Wls inMX plus dental work and I had plastics this January there. Ppl have the idea that you get thrown up on the table in. The kitchen of a hovel and it is totally not like that.

You should go over to the MX forum but  you would need to read back through the posts for several pages for the best information. You could also google " medical tourism" and. You will find it is a huge business for many countries. Many of their surgeons are cutting edge but there are the quacks too, just like in the us. That is where recommendations from ppl on this forum who. Have been there done that are invaluable.

many of the surgeons speak some English, many not so much. The ones who don't will have an interpreter with them so everybody can be understood and understand. A lot of the nursing staff seals some level of English but there is usually someone around who does and will help with translation. I. Never really had trouble making my needs known.

mexico was the only way I was able to have my Wl surgeries and my plastics. It has been a God send for me.
