Anyone file for/receive SSDI for co-morbidities?

So after meeting with my surgeon yesterday and finding out that I am pre-diabetic, have high cholesterol, some degree of fatty liver disease, and my thyroid levels are off (I have had hypothyroidism since I was 21 but numbers are off again, need to readjust meds), as well as a few other problems (hypertension) associated with my super morbid obesity (God, that just sounds depressing :-( ), I started wondering if I might be able to apply for SSDI? If so, it would allow me to be able to have my DS surgery and dedicate myself to recovery and weight-loss (to rid myself of all these co-morbidities) without the added stress of if I will be able to work through the recovery or not.

If you have applied, what is the process and time-table and were you approved?

I have no idea if this is even a valid avenue to go down but I'm having a hard time finding info at the SS website to help me figure it out.

I may be wrong, but I don't think any of those co-morbidities would qualify you for disability, especially if you are presently working a job while having those same issues.

Not to sound harsh but you do realize that all federal programs are supported by me, you and other tax paying people? Why can't you work throughout your journey like thousands of others do instead of looking for a handout? I don't pay taxes so you can stay home and "concentrate" on losing wt.

The word I used was "dedicate", not "concentrate".

Either way... NO.  There is no reason that you are unable to work!  If you CHOOSE to take time off work to concentrate on your weight loss (what makes you think that requires 24/7 attention?!?) that is your business, but do not expect the US taxpayers to pay for it!

Do you have any idea how insulting your question is to the people who legitimately need disability?

I doubt that those comorbidities qualify....otherwise we'd all qualify.  In our obese society, who'd work to pay the taxes to  support all of us?

you cant find the info because the answer is NO, I agree with the other poster, we all started with the same issues, we did it fine, with little time off  work and certainly did not have to leach the system to get time off and paid for that we ALL  pay for one way or another, I this some  of us are taking offense that we would be supporting you while you figure out your way around your surgery! YOu are working a job now and doing ok, I am sure you will do fine after your surgery, the recovery is not usually more that a few weeks,,,,, use medical time, vacation days, personal days, don't have the public pay for your free time off!!!!

You asked for our Opinions when you posted on a public forum.
Too bad it was not what you wanted to hear.
However, our lives are NOT better since you are trying to milk the system.

Only sorry ppl do that.
