Private policies do not cover WLS.  If they did they would go broke.  Everyone would be signing up for a policy to get WLS and as soon as they had the surgery they would drop the policy.  You can only get WLS through group policies.  I have heard of a private policy that did cover it after a 5 year waiting period.

At this point I see two choices, either find another employer that does cover WLS or self pay.  :o(

I figured   Thanks so much for your reply.

Any one know if temporary disability covers it?

No, they don't.  But COBRA would.  It's almost cheaper to go to MX than to buy COBRA.  :o(

Most self pays do go to Mexico, i did.  Once for my band (band was a HUGE  mistake) and once for a revision to a sleeve 5 years ago.

I would seriously think twice about RNY.  Your job loss is the very reason I suggest this.  What if your next job does not cover WLS?  Even IF you self paid anywhere for RNY and your ins does not cover WLS, they don't have to pay for your labs.

Sleeves lose just as much weight as RNY with a fraction of the risks and complications and NO aftercare.  Labs are your annual CBC/Chem Panel with an added B12 on top of it.  It's the safest surgery type long term.

When the layoff rumors start flying, go ahead (if option is available) and cash in on your short term disability.  This is usually not to hard to do through your primary care physician, and especially those of us needing treatments and various surgeries for health reason.  This option should at least get you an additional 90 days of insurance.
