Are you limited to certain surgeons? If they don't have a list of approved surgeons, start doing your research and find a surgeon. Call their office and ask if the take Medicaid. If they don't, ask them for a referral. Once you find a surgeon, they will put the rest of the plan in place. Good luck!

Congrats! I'm in ga so here we get approved then we select which carrier ie - amerigroup, WellCare and I think the other option is called peachcare. I would go ahead and select my Bariatric office remember it has to be an office that takes your insurance and speak with the bariatric coordinator to ask questions. She or he will be able to tell you which insurance has a smoother process. In ga amerigroup was the best choice because the supervised diet was 3 months instead of 6 with WellCare. Remember insurance is different from state to state but Let me know if I can answer any other questions for you.

I also have straight medicaid and I have to pick a specific carrier am seeking bariatric surgery, here in Georgia what were the other requirements for Amerigroup? Ive been in contact with Peachtree Bariatrics and i spoke to one of their insurance reps they told me Wellcare is very lenient as far as approvals, but peachstate has denied alot of people. So thats why i chose in my head wellcare but if Amerigroup has a 3 month supervised diet i would choose them first. To get this ball rolling or in other words this fat rolling off.

Call them and see if they cover WLS.  Many states are simply running out of money, there aren't enough dollars so they are cutting benefits.  I believe AZ is one state that no longer does WLS under their various welfare plans.  :o(
