Tricare Prime Approval - North Region
Hi, My name is Tampa and I received my approval today after two business days! I just wanted to say Tricare rocks and I am grateful that they approved me without a hassle. I'm scheduled to have my RNY at Inova Hospital in Fairfax at the end of March. Although it's right around the corner and I have a lot to do in a few weeks I'm glad because the other option was May. So clear a big spot for me on the losers bench...I'm kinda hippy right now......but that too will past!! Yeah
Thank you and the same to you. I was so worried but it turned out to be a snap. I waited 2 days bc the mytricare site kept saying it was "in process" and nothing else. When I called the case manager she said "I'm just waiting on a date from your surgeon". It was freakin' fantastic to hear those words. I'll see you on the loser bench!
Hi there,
I am in the "in process" boat. And this is for the referral from my pcm to the bariatric surgeon (civilian) Does the surgeon also have to put in a request for the surgery, or will the first one cover it? I'm thinking that's why it's taking so long? I'm getting annoyed. I have Tricare Prime North. My doctor's office put the referral in on March 1. (although I was seen on the 23rd - grrr) Figured I'd hear something other than "in process" by now. I'm trying to be patient, but my consult appointment is on Friday the 11th.
I am 5'3" and 260. I also have high blood pressure, elevated cholesterol, and sleep apnea. I sure hope I don't get denied. I hope I can join you on the losers bench, too!
Okay, thanks for listening. I think I'll give Tricare a call today.

That seems like too long. I have TriWest, I asked my PCM for the referral, and I had the authorization for referral in like 36 hours on tricareonline. My understanding is that the doctor still has to submit for surgical approval, but I don't know for fact. The in network surgeon in Denver has a list of pre consulation tasks, he would like you to complete. So I am getting all of those done, psychological evaluation (last week), blood work require by surgeon ( last week) and pulmonary evaluation (next week) My PCM put the referrals in for all of these items at the same time she submitted the referral to the surgeon.
To this point, Tricare has been quite easy.
